Community Service & Education

St Ives Veterinary Hospital is involved with a wide range of community service projects.

Wildlife

In St Ives, we are surrounded by bushland and share our suburb with native wildlife including possums, wallabies, koalas, bandicoots, blue tongue lizards and many bird species. These animals may be found ill or injured due to habitat destruction, road traffic accidents or encounters with feral animals.

We encourage any clients or members of the public that find injured wildlife to contact the surgery.

All veterinary work carried out on injured wildlife is performed at no charge and we work with local wildlife rescue groups to rehabilitate wildlife that will be fit for release.

Education

St Ives Veterinary Hospital is passionate about supporting the next generation of veterinarians and veterinary nurses.

We are an accredited Education Support Practice with the University of Sydney and provide placement opportunities for students in the second year of study to learn about the day-to-day running of a small animal practice from our vets, nurses and support staff.

Many of these students will return as a final year intern, having completed their medicine and surgery university training, giving them opportunities to work alongside an experienced veterinarian and apply their knowledge in a clinical setting before final graduation.

Many of our nurses started learning ‘on the job’ with us as a kennel hand or trainee nurse while completing their TAFE studies, and we have hosted many high school work experience students over the years, providing an insight into veterinary medicine that goes beyond cuddling cute puppies and kittens!

If you are interested in a career in the veterinary industry, please send us an email at info@stivesvet.com.au to enquire about how we could be part of your journey.

Sponsorship

St Ives Veterinary Hospital has sponsored a wide range of community fund raisers over the years, and currently supports Corpus Christi Primary School, St Ives Preschool, St Ives High School and Killara High School.

We are proud to be part of our local community, supporting fur babies and their humans.

Rescue Work

St Ives Vet Hospital is dedicated to helping the work of rescue organisations to care for abandoned, neglected, surrendered or abused animals.

We work closely with two specific organisations – “Fetching Dogs” and “Cat Rescue”. Click on their logo to discover more about them.

We provide them with heavily discounted care to enable them to continue the amazing work they do helping these animals.
